Checker-Throated Woodpecker

It was a nice and cool morning and just outside the Kinabalu Mountain Lodge. Another tree-climbing bird to add to the video list! Yay. What a pretty one, I must say. Chin Hock and I had just put down our coffee mug and walked out just 10 steps from the lodge and we found this handsome male out for breakfast. 

The Picus mentalis is common in lowlands, hills and mountains - just about anywhere and very common around the Kinabalu Park.
